An unique and very special feature of Early Bird International Student Film Festival is the fact that President ot the Jury is the student who won the Grand Prize Early Bird at the previous edition of the festival. This year that special responsibility and honour goes to Aleksandra Terpińska from Poland.

Makes films about things that matter to her

She graduated from Directing studies at the Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia in Katowice. She is also a graduate of Psychology at the University of Wroclaw. Director and screenwriter of short films, documentaries, commercials and music videos. In 2016 she graduated from Toronto Talent Lab at the International Film Festival in Toronto.

Her last film “The best fireworks ever” premiered in Cannes 2017 in Critics Week and won the Rail d’Or Award for best short film and Canal+ Award. The film is the realization of the winning scenario in the competition for contemporary adaptations of the film "Blind Chance" by Krzysztof Kieslowski - "The Most Beautiful Fireworks Ever". It tells the story of a day in the lives of three young friends who are forced to change their plans for the future in the face of armed conflict in their country. The film begins its festival run this year. The premiere took place during a ceremony associated with the European Film Awards in Wroclaw.

Her first short film "All souls’ day" premiered in San Sebastian, and was shown at over 100 festivals around the world. It has won 19 awards in Poland and in the world. Among others, the Grand Prix at Short Film Festival in Drama, Best Short Film at Cottbus Film Festival and PFI and Mastershot Award at Camerimage IFF.

In 2015, she completed her work on graduation film "America" (30 min), about two teenage girls who are trying to break out of their ordinary lives in the province. So far the film has been shown at numerous film festivals and received 20 awards including the Golden Horseman of the Youth Jury at Filmfest Dresden, Best Short Film at Sehsuchte International Student Film Festival in Potsdam, Golden Tadpole at Camerimage IFF, Early Bird Grand Award in Bulgaria and The Flaming Faun at Shnit International Shortfilm Festival, Jury Award Short Feature Film at the 13th Filmfest Eberswalde, Germany.

Aleksandra is also the author of documents "First Time" and "Czech Swan". The latter is a Polish-Czech co-production that, in a funny and light way, tells a story about pensioners who decide to fulfill their dream and dance "Swan Lake". The film was sold to television in the Czech Republic, Japan, Australia and Croatia.
